- There are two modules in this Training CD series: Prediction and Assessment of Groundwater Impacts - Fundamentals; and Systematic Process for Groundwater Impact Studies.
Prediction and Assessment of Groundwater Impacts -- Fundamentals: This course describes scientific and policy challenges in addressing groundwater usage and contamination. Information is included on multiple point and area sources of contamination; subsurface movement of groundwater; multiple laws and programs for groundwater management, including groundwater protection measures; and a brief description of a six-step process which can be used to plan an impact study.
Systematic Process for Groundwater Impact Studies: This course provides an in-depth coverage of the six-step process for planning groundwater impact studies. Key features are related to leachate movement in the subsurface; groundwater withdrawals; pollutant movement in unsaturated and saturated subsurface zones; the influence of hydrodynamic, abiotic and biotic processes; aquifer vulnerability mapping; groundwater quality standards; limits on groundwater abstraction; and potential groundwater protection and mitigation measures.
